Death Knell

“Someone will be with you shortly.”

They were shut into a small waiting area, where Isla fidgeted upon the edge of her chair. When bells chimed the start of school, Isla looked as if it were a death knell.

Jacques’ impatient simmer rolled into full boil.

While it wasn’t his style, he thought he could refashion himself for Isla’s sake. Taking her hand, which was far too cold, he said. “I know you don’t want to make trouble for Himself, but Argent won’t mind. I’ll have this fixed in a trice.”

“How?”

Jacques pouted forlornly. “Try not to be embarrassed.”

  2. Is he going to call his lord or literally growing fangs and claws to defend one of the children from Stately House? As it is his right and duty. Jacques will not let one of their children suffer. Lord Mettlebright is highly protective and his Man and confidant is alike.
