As soon as her brother arrived, Sango retreated, taking Shippo along. Only when Sesshoumaru was sure it was just them did he reach for Kohaku. But he was still incomplete.
From within swaddling fur, the young man asked, “Kagome-sama left?”
“Hnn.” His forehead touched Kohaku’s shoulder. “Does it hurt you?”
“Not like this. Not like you.”
Shishi pressed closer and whined.
“We are here,” Kohaku relayed.
“Hnn.”
“Maybe it’s because you shared the wish.” More softly, “Maybe it’s because you love her.”
“Hnn.”
“She’ll return.”
With traces of triumph, Sesshoumaru murmured, “She chose us.”
“Say… Sesshoumaru? Is that Kagome-sama’s journal?”
