Chapter 282: Unfocused

It was over before Sesshoumaru could prepare for the blow. In one bounding leap, she was simply, irrevocably gone. Unreachable.

Voices gradually reached him. “…hurt? Sesshoumaru-sama, are you in pain?”

“Hnn…?” He was having trouble bringing Sango’s face into focus.

“Let me.” The kit clambered to his shoulder and smacked Sesshoumaru’s cheek. “Breathe, idiot-sama!”

Sesshoumaru wasn’t sure he could.

Her book wrenched from his hand, and he gasped his way into a growl.

“More! Deep breaths.” Shippo thrust it under his nose and snapped, “Kagome’s scent. Breathe for that, at least!”

For her, Sesshoumaru tried. For her, he continued. Again.
