“Oi, Jacques. You got a thing for hooves?”
“Not especially. I definitely do have a thing for good grooming, though. You shall be splendid.”
“Get on with it,” Nonny complained. “I’ll let you.”
“Lord. Have some patience.”
“Settle down, kiddo.” Ginkgo turned on the bench so Nonny could lean into his chest. Resting his chin between the boy’s horns, Ginkgo said, “Jacques is taking extra care because we know you were mishandled before.”
“Who says I was?”
“Body language, mostly.” Ginkgo softly added, “You drop the odd hint. We notice.”
Fear sparked in Nonny’s eyes, and his gaze slid sideways.

Aw..Poor Nonny! I totally understand though. I was terrified of needles as a kid. Bad for a military brat that has to get them with nearly every move. It took a sweet friend in the lab to ease me out of the fear when I was pregnant. Still can’t watch but I’m better about it.

If it may be told, about how old is Jacques in this scene, please?

This comes up from time to time. Jacques was 23 at the beginning of LMM (which was essentially 1yr after the Emergence. In Bk2 (where the story is currently taking place), the 4th Anniversary of the Emergence is coming up quick. That means Jacques is probably close to 26, give or take a few months, depending on when his birthday falls.
