Imperfect Alliance
“Your turn.” Jacques lowered Kyrie onto Sinder’s lap. “He should know dragons come in more colors.”
“Hey!” grumped Sinder.
Juuyu was instantly at his side. “I can take him.”
Sinder eyed him warily. “I don’t need rescuing. Neither does the kid.”
“Kyrie,” reminded Jacques, who was enjoying the unintended drama.
“You do not like children,” said Juuyu.
Pointedly snubbing his buddy, Sinder explained, “I’m no good with kids. Wrong temperament. We’re shockingly selfish, dragons.”
Juuyu warbled an unhappy cadence.
Jacques waved a finger between them. “How long have you been partners?”
Sinder grimaced. “Not long.”
Juuyu corrected. “Not long enough.”
