LMM 267: Quibble

Claimer: I do hereby claim all rights and responsibility for the characters in this series of vignettes because the Amaranthine Saga is mine. (Which means I should probably behave myself since anything I say or do could be taken as canon.) Indulge the lot of us, especially the one who’s a young goat. Well, half-goat.

Nonny shuffled closer but mumbled, “Stop treating me like a kid.”

“Is that a joke?”

The boy responded with a string of profanity.

Jacques laughed and pulled him close, hoping to stem the tide. “Are you sure butler is your calling? You swear like a sailor.”

Nonny leaned into Jacques’ side. “How’re you supposed to teach butlering?”

“I believe the proper term is buttling. To buttle.”

“You’re a prissy tosh, but you’re no butler.”

“So… I’m useless?”

“Nah.”

Jacques was curious to know. “What do you think my job is?”

Nonny’s eyes sparkled. “The gov says you’re my new mentor.”
