Cautiously, Inuyasha asked, “You want my protection?” 

“Hnn.”

“Because you’re the Four Souls. Somehow.” He edged closer, searching for confirmation other than Sesshoumaru’s conviction.

“It is the unavoidable conclusion. Although not cast in crystal, I am… trapped.”

“Keh. You looked pretty happy when I got here.”

“Hnn.” His brother’s gaze skittered sideways. “The connection is unusual. Influential. It is disquieting to be apart.”

“It’s bothering you now?”

Sesshoumaru seemed confused.

“How far apart? You need to be touching? Or is that just… I dunno… nicer?”

Sesshoumaru blinked.

Was that a fidget?

Inuyasha had to ask. “So which one are you?”
