LMM 85: Not My Job

Claimer: I do hereby claim all rights and responsibility for the characters in this series of vignettes because the Amaranthine Saga is mine. (Which means I should probably behave myself since anything I say or do could be taken as canon.) Indulge the lot of us, especially the cute one.

Chapter Eighty-Five: Not My Job

Jacques marveled at the dizzying speed with which Gingko gained Nonny’s trust. Then again, Gingko was something Jacques never would be. Fond of children.

He should be glad of the transfer of Nonny’s affections. Relieved, even.

Jacques shuffled backward.

Babysitting wasn’t in his job description. Never would be.

“Hey. Runt.” Gingko gave a casual jerk of his chin. “He wants you.”

“Argent?” he squeaked. Jacques hated how young he sounded.

Gingko chuckled. “This is better than baby pictures.”

He scowled.

“Go on, little Jackie Smythe.” He nodded encouragement. “It’s not often you get a second chance at a first impression.”
