LMM 84: Not Half Bad

Claimer: I do hereby claim all rights and responsibility for the characters in this series of vignettes because the Amaranthine Saga is mine. (Which means I should probably behave myself since anything I say or do could be taken as canon.) Indulge the lot of us, especially the one who’s offering a half dose.

Jacques grabbed Nonny’s hand, which was cold, and asked, “Why do foxes scare you?”

“I’d be interested to know that myself,” interrupted a voice. Gingko eased carefully to the grass a short distance away, Kyrie cradled against his shoulder. “Wanna tell me about it?”

Nonny shook his head.

“How about I ask questions?” Gingko wiggled his ears for Kyrie’s benefit. “Ever met a fox before?”

The kid nodded.

“Young like me, or ancient like Dad?”

Nonny shrugged.

“Silver? Red? A vixen, maybe?”

Jacques winced when Nonny’s grip tightened.

“We’re not all bad.” Gingko smiled crookedly. “Or half-bad, in my case.”

  2. Ginkgo has some deep insight on these matters. I love him. From what we’ve seen of the fox vixens, they can be scary. But in the animal predator world, the female of the species is the primary hunter.
