Kagome watched Sesshoumaru’s fascination with Inuyasha’s humanity flicker with the firelight. If only Inuyasha would stop reading his fears into the stillness and silence.
Letting their shoulders bump, she said, “He probably thinks you’re cute.”
“Huh?”
“He’s pleased you invited him. I can tell.”
“Keh.”
“Why not admit you enjoy each other’s company?”
Inuyasha looked scandalized. “Stop saying weird stuff.”
Laughing, she asked Sesshoumaru, “Was your father this stubborn?”
“Stubborn, impulsive, and fierce.” His gaze never wavered. “And kind when he could be.”
She saw right through him. And played along. “He was kind to you?”
“Kinder than I deserved.”
