Bard & Barbarian

Updated! There’s another update to Bard & Barbarian, which I post exclusively to Patreon as a way to thank my patrons. In Chapter 8: “Nameless,” Imber’s father and uncle test his bardic mettle.

In related news, FoxOfTwilight is working on art for my boys. After some waffling (because little!Imber is a cute little button), we decided to make the bard an adult for this dual portrait. Because little boys will soon grow up to have adventures of their own. ::twinkle::

#SixFanartChallenge

Taking Suggestions! My Twitter feed has been blowing up with this challenge for two days now, and I’ve been dropping suggestions left and right. (Some even get chosen! Fwee!) Well, I didn’t have to coax very hard for FoxOfTwilight to agree to do the #SixFanartChallenge specifically for the Songs & Saga. So what are your Amaranthine universe requests? Drop them in comments, and we’ll pick our six favorites!

Release Day!

Governed by Whimsy is OUT. This is the solo digital edition. The print anthology will be coming along later, probably in May. An audio edition of the 4-story collection is already contracted, so you can also look forward to Travis Baldree’s narration.

His whims drove off her predecessors.
Her whimsy drives him to distraction.

Songs of the Amaranthine 04, Governed by Whimsy

To Ambrose P. Merriman, a stage actor who’s gained acclaim on three continents, reaver escorts are more trouble than they’re worth. Easy-come, easy-go, he hardly bothers to learn their names anymore. But the director and producer of their theater troupe, who are already dancing on the fringes of acceptability, won’t risk losing their independence by neglecting this duty to the In-between.

Reaver Greta Demerara comes with suspiciously excellent references, but by the time the Evernhold brothers realize she’s carrying considerably more baggage than anyone bothered to mention, the train’s already left the station. What’s more, it’s quickly apparent that Greta’s no easier to deal with than their star. It’s either a game of cat and canary or a courtship. And Ambrose would give almost anything for a look at the script.

NOW AVAILABLE!

P.S. I’m not seeing it in storefronts other than Amazon just yet, but it should be showing up soon. (Not much I can do to hurry things along. Thank you for your patience.)

ART: Brothers Evernhold

Coming Attraction. Release day is tomorrow, but most of us with pre-orders will be receiving a digital delivery tonight. So here’s fresh enticement in the form of art (and another tiny teaser). Governed by Whimsy will introduce you to members of the Leclerc Company, a traveling theater troupe with a vast repertoire, founded by the brothers Evernhold.

“Do I have the pleasure of addressing Mademoiselles Dimityblest and Demerara?”

They whirled guiltily.

Tailored gray suit. Chartreuse vest. Velvet shoes. Peridot cuff links. Fanning feathers in the band of the hat in his hands. The gentleman’s tone was cautious, and Greta could guess why. He looked her up and down through glasses with lavender-tinted lenses, shaggy eyebrows on the rise.

Greta rearranged her many parcels, using them as a shield.

“Who might you be?” Lulu’s posture slowly shifted. “Canarian?”

“None other.”

He lowered his glasses, revealing eyes of the same deep orange as his mother’s. Mahogany hair swept away from his brow in waxed waves. “I’m widely known as Monsieur Canarian Leclerc, founding member of the acclaimed Leclerc Company. How may I be of service, ladies?”

FoxOfTwilight was good enough to create a portrait of my two theatrical dandies, who are quite good at drawing in the crowds wherever they may be performing. Continue reading

Bard & Barbarian

Updated! Just a quick note that I managed to update Bard & Barbarian yesterday. This has been a good week for DnD at forthy’s house. Woke to a surprise game-brunch on Monday. Defending a treasure convoy goes rather well with fresh cinnamon rolls. And then yesterday’s usual campaign slot (which went extra long) brought sufficient success for Marc to unlock a unique feature on one of his swords. Poor boy. I’m not sure who’s more confused by the consequences: me, Imber, or Marc himself.

LMM 116: Lavish Provisions

Claimer: I do hereby claim all rights and responsibility for the characters in this series of vignettes because the Amaranthine Saga is mine. (Which means I should probably behave myself since anything I say or do could be taken as canon.) Indulge the lot of us, especially the sleepy one.

CURRENTLY UPDATING

Bard & Barbarian posts exclusively to Patreon. Now with serialized narration! Become a patron to read along.

Coop and the Elderbough Trackers – Cole Pfeiffer-Cooper, who prefers to be called Coop, became part of a pack way before the world found out about the Amaranthine. He was eight when his family took in Daroo-fen Clearsong, back in Dragged through Hedgerows (Songs of the Amaranthine, #3). Begins here.

Kimiko and the Cycle of Moons (Amaranthine Interludes, #3) posts exclusively to Patreon. Join at the Twinkle tier ($4/month) and subscription to the tale will be one of your perks.

With every kiss he accepts, her claim on him wins hearts the world over.
Readers have often asked for more of Kimiko Miyabe’s courtship of Eloquence Starmark. Their grand cycle is a tale I’ll be telling as a Patreon-exclusive serialization, which is now ongoing. Their story will range from the seamstress’s workroom at the Starmark compound to the forming of fresh triads at New Saga High School. And you can look forward to all the drama at Kikusawa Shrine: three sisters, twelve kisses, and the long-awaited stirring of a sleeping landmark. Cozy Fantasy. Slice-of-Life. Family. Courtship.
