“Be there in a minute,” called Tsumiko distractedly. She was bent over a book that was nearly half her height. Probably on loan from one of the dragon lords.
Jacques moved to the tea service. Argent waved away his silent offer and asked, “Nonny?”
“Not the most natural fit, but willing. Who’s this then?”
“As yet unnamed,” said Argent. “Naroo-soh brought two bundles for Christmas.”
“Baby drop boxes working, then?”
“Too well. Of the nine children abandoned to us, only two were crossers.”
“Humans?”
“Entirely ordinary,” drawled Argent. “Cast upon the benevolence of the Amaranthine people.”
Jacques sipped thoughtfully. “Good.”
