Must Love Orphans
“That’s rather a long story.”
Jacques glanced down. “No, I’m not currently in possession of my pants.”
“Look here! He’s really more of a she.”
“Claims to cook. Definitely a good mother. Orphan specialist.”
“Yes, right here.”
He handed off the phone.
“Sonnet Cook, sir, lately of Merritt House.”
“No, I’m not currently in possession of his pants. I hung them up to dry.”
“Quite. Nearly caught his death.”
He blushed. “Nothing of the sort.”
“Yes. I raised two. How many…? Oh? Oh, my.”
“Very good, sir.”
Sonnet slowly lowered the phone.
Jacques asked, “Well?”
He whispered, “I love you.”
