“It’s later,” prompted Canarian, who’d kneaded Jacques into a blissful fog.
“Hmm?”
“What inspired your earlier oath to the Maker?” He quietly reminded, “You said later, and we are alone for the moment.”
Jacques sighed. “Nonny made peace with Catalan. He hated everything about the idea… and did it anyhow. For me.”
“Nonny trusts you.”
“But I’m not the trustworthy type!” Jacques waved a hand. “I lack moral fiber.”
“Beg to differ.”
“Lord. Listen… I have to be good. Better than good. Upstanding! And I’m rather more used to being disreputable.”
“Again,” said Canarian, whose eyes sparkled. “Beg to differ.”
