Claimer: I do hereby claim all rights and responsibility for the characters in this series of vignettes because the Amaranthine Saga is mine. (Which means I should probably behave myself since anything I say or do could be taken as canon.) Indulge the lot of us, especially the unhappy one.

Duty Calls
Instead of wearying of his isolation, Jacques dreaded its end. Seven days at most, that’s what Michael said. And that was today. “Nothing wrong with a little lie in.”
“Mmm,” agreed the dragon lord in his arms.
Jacques couldn’t sense Betweener magic, but waking up was an ordinary thing. Everyone did it, even Amaranthine. Still, Jacques hadn’t noticed.
“Unhappy to see me?”
“Only to see you go.”
“Ah. I must, you know.”
“Duty calls,” Jacques mournfully acknowledged.
“Silly boy.” Lapis smiled. “I may not sleep as often as you do, but I need rest with similar regularity.”
“You’d… come back?”

I think Lapis has found a cuddle partner and so has Jacques. You think he feels accepted yet?

I agree, and I think he feels “more accepted than not. Not all the way, but close” ❣
