Called It

Hisoka settled back on his pillow. “I used to go to Harmonious, but that’s become less convenient since the Emergence.”

“Clashing schedules.”

“I do have nephews I trust.”

Jacques brightened. “Deece.”

“Here?” He smiled slyly. “Are you offering to become my safety?”

“I couldn’t protect you, but I could hold you.” Jacques awkwardly added, “If you wanted.”

Without fanfare, Hisoka said, “I accept.”

“Really?”

“Unless Argent objects. And if he can spare Deece.”

Jacques innocently added, “And Michael?”

Hisoka hesitated too long.

“Hasn’t anyone ever called you on it before?” Jacques prodded the cat’s bare shoulder. “He’s obviously your favorite.”
