Staying was more involved than Jacques expected. And more immediate. Wedged between Gingko and Gilen, he helped relay Argent’s bedtime story to a homesick little boy.
Gingko’s translation had all the ambiance of a fable, but the tale being spun was more new than old.
A fox and his lady.
A den and its protection.
A home and its blessings.
Argent was handing down family history to its newest members. And he’d waited for Jacques before beginning. His breath caught.
Gingko’s ears pricked his way.
“Am I dreaming?” Jacques whispered.
Slinging an arm around his shoulders, Gingko said, “Maybe later.”
