Claimer: I do hereby claim all rights and responsibility for the characters in this series of vignettes because the Amaranthine Saga is mine. (Which means I should probably behave myself since anything I say or do could be taken as canon.) Indulge the lot of us, especially the worried one.

A Little While
“Twelve seasons, and everyone’s frantic, since crosser births endanger the mother.”
“Confide in Argent,” Jacques advised. “Or Harmonious, since Lady Anna managed with Ever.”
“Yes, of course. I’ll write them.”
“Your departure’s imminent?”
“Tomorrow.”
“Ah.”
“It’s only for a little while,” Sonnet said. “I’ll come back. Someday. I will.”
Jacques was keenly aware that ‘a little while’ meant something different to people whose lifespans never ended. Sonnet’s someday would be years from now. Possibly decades.
Jacques had been through this so many times before, so he didn’t ask Sonnet to stay.
And Sonnet didn’t ask him to wait.
The end.

Sigh Sonnet understands I think, what it would mean if he did ask Jacques to wait. In the same way that Jacques understands if he asked Sonnet to stay.

THAT’S why Suuzu brought Jacques in as a nest mate! I was wondering how Sonnet would feel about it. And also why Sonnet was so wistful when arriving with Linnea.
