Exemption

Jacques suspected he was glowing with sigilcraft—both Juuyu’s and Argent’s—not that he could tell. Nor would anyone else, which was rather the point. He was somewhat miffed that nobody would recall the gorgeousness of his new wool-cashmere suit, but… needs must.

Harrison’s initial puzzlement melted into delight. “So you can ward a person!”

“I can interact normally with people, but their memory of me will be fuzzy.” Jacques tucked a blue crystal into Harrison’s vest pocket and gave it a pat. “This makes you exempt.”

The man beamed. “Shall we?”

From behind Jacques, Argent drawled, “Not just yet.”
