Harrison added oranges to the trolley. “I deal with lonely kids all the time.”
“You… think I’m lonely?”
“Oh, my goodness! I shouldn’t be making–”
“Non. Don’t apologize.” And cautiously, “You’re not wrong.”
“My job. Listening might be the most important part. Kids always need someone to ask after their pets, remember their favorite color… and hear them out when no one else will listen.”
“My favorite color is green.”
“I’ll remember.” Harrison nodded at the touch of silk Jacques had added to his ensemble while dressing. “And I’ll listen. If you like.”
Jacques marveled at his good fortune.
