Jacques roused enough to know he was in his own bed, with a purring Catalan for a pillow. “Mmm… what did I miss?”
“Daring advice, impetuous kisses, and a bouquet. Your wolf favors lavender.”
“Were you good to him?”
“Sonnet trusts easily, learns eagerly. Is this envy? I could be twice as good to you.”
“I can’t be jealous. He needs your sort of friendship.”
Catalan kissed him softly. “Canines don’t understand dalliance.”
“You’ve seen how he is. How he’d be. I refuse to be the cad who breaks his heart.”
“Because you’re inconstant as a cat?”
“Because I’m human.”
