Minutes later, the monkey-crosser hunched like a gargoyle on the corner of Michael’s desk, skewer flashing into clay until it resembled lace.

“Extraordinary!” Michael held out a hand to Jacques. “Come see.”

Fingers brushed, then locked as Michael pulled him closer, banishing one man’s blindness as if miracles were simple.
