Claimer: I do hereby claim all rights and responsibility for the characters in this series of vignettes because the Amaranthine Saga is mine. (Which means I should probably behave myself since anything I say or do could be taken as canon.) Indulge the lot of us, especially the marvelous one.

Cutting Corners
Sonnet came to kneel before him, concern clouding his face.
Jacques waved a hand. “You don’t need me, not really. You’ll be marvelous, no matter your choice.”
“But… I’m not looking for a bondmate.” Sonnet dropped to a whisper. “I thought it would be all right, since you aren’t either.”
Jacques kept a protest in check. Sonnet wasn’t entirely wrong. Neither was he entirely correct. But this wasn’t about what Jacques wanted.
“It will be all right,” he promised.
Sonnet touched his chest, his cheek. “Why are you stirred up?”
Jacques’ explanation cut a few corners. He just kissed him.

I’m thinking things are getting muddled here. Sonnets taking the steps but you are still on the fence.
