LMM 481: Sifting and Shifting

Claimer: I do hereby claim all rights and responsibility for the characters in this series of vignettes because the Amaranthine Saga is mine. (Which means I should probably behave myself since anything I say or do could be taken as canon.) Indulge the lot of us, especially the one with a case of the fidgets.

Jacques promised, “Cat and Canary rarely tell all they know. They’re good friends of mine.”

“And more…?”

“Sometimes.” He gently tapped Sonnet’s nose. “I gave up keeping secrets from Amaranthine ages ago. Do you want me to explain to them…?”

Sonnet’s gaze was mournful.

“Oh, lord.” Jacques hated to ask. “Don’t tell me you’re jealous, too.”

“Too?”

“Nonny.”

“Ohhh.” Sonnet’s expression softened. “No.”

Jacques tried to sift out the truth. “What then?”

“They’re so fond of you. There’s so much trust.” He fidgeted. “It’s lovely.”

Startlement slowly shifted into understanding. “Well, then. Shall we invite them to a grooming session?”
