All in the Upbringing

Breathless moments passed before Sonnet’s tail quivered upward. “Yes…?” he whispered, sounding a little shocked at himself. But then his stance firmed, and his gaze steadied. “And Deece, too?”

“How are you so brave?”

Is it bravery?” Sonnet softly admitted, “I’m curious.”

“If anyone will understand your curiosity, it’s cats. They embody it.” Jacques was quick to clarify, “They’re gentlemen. And… well. Because of their upbringing, they know a good deal more about females.”

Sonnet blinked, clearly baffled. 

Jacques backed up. “This festival. The mock chase. The traded intimacies. I was given to understand they’re… preparatory.”

Sonnet simply blinked again.
