Scamper

They strolled toward the house in a silence that Jacques refused to prolong. “This is awkward for you.”

“Mmm.”

“But we’ll run.” Whatever that meant.

Sonnet’s gaze remained fixed on Losi. “Mmm.”

“Shall I do my own research? Discreetly, of course.”

“You’d do that?”

“I’m the willing sort. Well, I draw the line at flannel, but I can be otherwise rugged and ready to revel.” And because Jacques knew just enough to be dangerous, he asked, “By any chance, are there salacious overtones to our upcoming scamper?”

Sonnet looked incredibly embarrassed but a tiny bit relieved when she answered, “Mmm.”
