Claimer: I do hereby claim all rights and responsibility for the characters in this series of vignettes because the Amaranthine Saga is mine. (Which means I should probably behave myself since anything I say or do could be taken as canon.) Indulge the lot of us, especially the one with a considerable protective streak.

Hackles
“Ninook is a dex. They look out for lone wolves. My grandsire probably asked him to check on me.”
“That sounds like Harmonious, but something must have raised Ninook’s hackles where I’m concerned.”
“I told him you would run with me during the new moon.”
Jacques guessed, “A shocking departure?”
Sonnet sighed. “I shouldn’t have asked him for advice.”
“About me?”
“Among other things.”
“So Ninook disapproves of the wild revelries you’ve planned?”
She went quiet.
Jacques had been joking. “Maybe you should tell me more about new moon traditions.”
Sonnet blushed and whispered, “Not in front of the children.”
