Jacques eyed Fend. “What must the pet endure today?”
“The boys were hoping for a run.”
Jogging on the beach sounded so picturesque, but Jacques knew he’d be chased back and forth across the sand by this trio of capering beasts.
“The boys?” Jacques narrowed his eyes. “Or Fend?”
Fend bared his fangs in a dangerous smile.
But then Deece’s attention swung away, and Rake slunk toward the open door.
Stately House’s dojo housed a small arsenal, so a combination of barriers and illusions kept it—and Jacques’ calisthenics—neatly under wraps.
No crossers allowed.
Yet a five-year-old exception appeared.
