Claimer: I do hereby claim all rights and responsibility for the characters in this series of vignettes because the Amaranthine Saga is mine. (Which means I should probably behave myself since anything I say or do could be taken as canon.) Indulge the lot of us, especially the gentleman.

“You have always been kind to me,” Sonnet insisted.
“Because I am a gentleman.”
“Are you actually unkind?” There was a challenge in that tone.
“I should hope not.” And Jacques proved it by redirecting his friend. “May I stay over?”
Sonnet drew himself up. “Of course!”
“Bon. Lie here. And while I sleep, you can muddle with this tattoo. It’s what the others usually do.”

Jacques leaned into his larger frame. “Don’t you crave this kind of closeness?”
Sonnet ventured, “We have the children.”
“This is different.”
