LMM 415: Double Take

Double Take

Jacques routinely helped Argent, Ginkgo, Deece, and Sonnet serve at table during the evening meal, making himself available to cut food into bit-sized pieces or reach second servings. Or thirds. Crossers had big appetites.

Tonight, the Americans were holding court on opposite ends of the table, telling a highly-entertaining tale that hadn’t made it to television, regularly interrupting each other to set the record straight.

Midway through, while Caleb was speaking, Jacques saw Sonnet reach past Josheb to replenish a platter. Josheb glanced up to thank her and did a befuddled double take. “Sonnet…?”

The apron-clad wolf smiled serenely. “Yes…?”
