Everything and Nothing
“Right, then!” Jacques firmed his stance. “Suuzu needs a break.”
There were groans and whinging, but Deece arrived with a couple of coolers, neatly diverting everyone’s attention.
Suuzu glided in and shifted, and Akira splashed into the shallows. As Suuzu pulled him close, Akira talked animatedly, leaning into his nestmate’s side like it was nothing. Even though Jacques knew it was everything.
They’d earned more than that fleeting moment, but Josheb the Gregarious squelched their way, arms flung wide, bottles of iced drinks in both hands. Exultant. Grateful. Oblivious.
Michael cheerfully inquired, “Shall we?”
“Lord, yes. You get the American.”
