Claimer: I do hereby claim all rights and responsibility for the characters in this series of vignettes because the Amaranthine Saga is mine. (Which means I should probably behave myself since anything I say or do could be taken as canon.) Indulge the lot of us, especially scruff-bucket.

Lend Balance
Josheb’s hopeful smile faded. “I’m making you uncomfortable, aren’t I?”
“Uncomfortable? Lord, no.” Jacques frowned thoughtfully. “Although I’ve never been quite this close to an excess of facial hair.”
“Oh. The beard. Not your thing?”
“Very not.”
Josheb tried to pull away, but Sonnet didn’t let go. He softly said, “I was raised to be modest, so I’m more self-conscious than most wolves. It’s especially shocking to bare my blaze, but if it would lend balance to our trust…?”
Jacques had thought it amusing to consign Josheb to a fundoshi. It wasn’t funny, now. “Sonnet, why have you never protested?”
