Apologizing to Cat
After much dawdling, Nonny sent Jacques one last, longing look, clearly hoping for a reprieve.
Jacques simply nodded.
Resignation turned to resolve, and Nonny presented himself to Catalan.
“Mon dieu,” Jacques breathed.
Canarian hummed inquiringly.
He could only shake his head and whisper, “Later.”
Instead, they watched Cat beckon Nonny closer.
Cat spoke in undertones, and Nonny tensed. So did Jacques.
With a finger to his lips, Canary held him back, gaze intent.
Hoping for some hint about what was being said, Jacques looked to Michael, who’d stayed close to Cat, probably to mediate.
Michael’s surprised smile gave Jacques hope.
