Claimer: I do hereby claim all rights and responsibility for the characters in this series of vignettes because the Amaranthine Saga is mine. (Which means I should probably behave myself since anything I say or do could be taken as canon.) Indulge the lot of us, especially the accepting one.

Cat lifted Vanya. “Here, Nonny. Want to try?”
“I’ve held babies before. Lots of times.”
“So defensive.” Cat’s smile sweetened. “Then is it me you’re afraid of?”
Michael covered Nonny’s mouth, but he gestured his opinion.
Rising smoothly, the jaguar clansman handed off Vanya before whisking into Nonny’s personal space. “You want to play? I’m good at games.”
“Ruddy arse! You got a problem with crossers?”
“Why would I? Our brat’s a crosser.”
Nonny hesitated. “You’ve… got a crosser?”
“I’m perfectly willing to dote on you, too.” Catalan’s tone gentled. “Bury the hatchet, hmm? Jacques wants it, and I’m willing.”

Hmmm… struggling a little with Nonny’s rudeness in these last chapters 😕 I think the Amaranthine are endlessly patient with their youngsters, especially the defensive crossers.

Nonny’s young and infatuated. Let’s cut him some slack 😉

What? You think he ought to be smacked in the mouth? Abuse never raised up an obedient child.

Nonny has a very bad past.
And he is a “one man crosser” and the “man” is Jacques.
He is growing fast because he is afraid not to be needed and loved.
But he is careful and never hurt someone weak.
I liked this: “I’ve held babies before. Lots of times.”, very much Jacques’apprentice.

Wondering if Catalan is being so patient because he can sense Nonny’s fear and trepidation.

Poor Nonny, so many of his insecurities coming out. But no need to be rude, I love that Michael grabbed his mouth but he can be quite expressive with his hands…🤣🤣. Amaranthine are patient with their rowdy children but they do manage to instill manners regardless. I like how quickly Cat moved to gentler tones.
