Harmonious was presiding over a feast fit for dragons when the first text arrived. Jacques was well out of the limelight, so nobody noticed him stepping away. Except Argent.

“Well?” he demanded.

“News from home.”

“Show me.”

Ginkgo had sent through a snapshot. Sansa and Sonnet slouched together on a bed, looking sleepy and satisfied, a blanket-wrapped bundle between them. “All’s well.”

“So it would seem.”

In the next photo, Kyrie delivered a careful kiss to downy golden curls.

Then a video arrived, and Michael beamed. “Come home, old friend. A son has joined the den. We’ve named him Vanya.”
