Claimer: I do hereby claim all rights and responsibility for the characters in this series of vignettes because the Amaranthine Saga is mine. (Which means I should probably behave myself since anything I say or do could be taken as canon.) Indulge the lot of us, especially the one with a largeish family.

Drawing a Line
“You will not—under any circumstances—use your body to barter on my behalf.”
“Are you actually calling me a whore?”
“I am drawing a line.”
“Lord. What’s gotten into you? Foxes are vastly worse than dragons, always luring gentlemen into quiet corners.”
“Which foxes?” Argent’s eyes widened. “Have you been kissing my cousins?”
“Your cousins are beneath interest. There was that younger uncle, though. Turned up in my bed. We snuggled until morning.”
“Aster?”
“The very fellow!”
“He is still in diapers.”
“Had a nightmare, poor chap.”
“Jackie, just….” Argent’s fit of pique faded. “You deserve better.”
“I know.”

Argent will not allow Jacques or anyone under his protection to be treated as he was. I can understand his sensitivity to that.

mmm I can understand his sensitivity too, though I think he’s misunderstanding something about Jacques. He’s grown under Argent’s affection and protection; he knows his worth and he understands – in a way that I don’t Argent CAN understand because he’s part of that world – just how dangerous it is to forget one’s worth when you’re in the midst of beings so much more powerful and long-lived than you are. Or to forget that its only by their grace and civility he can enjoy their attentions. Argent underestimates Jacques, perhaps still sees him as that young man trailing after him begging for attention and affection from a being so powerful and different.
Jacques wouldn’t whore himself, not even if Argent asked him to. But if he can enjoy the attentions of a bunch of dragons who think they are swaying him…? why would he say no.

Still loving Argent being protective and sort of… uncertain? Plus, he called him Jackie – warm fuzzies 🥰
