LMM 345: Figurehead

Claimer: I do hereby claim all rights and responsibility for the characters in this series of vignettes because the Amaranthine Saga is mine. (Which means I should probably behave myself since anything I say or do could be taken as canon.) Indulge the lot of us, especially the one who is perfect for their job.

Our Lapis?” Jacques asked, incredulous. “Lord Mossberne?”

Argent’s lip curled. “According to the traditions of his clan, Lapis is neither a lord nor a leader. He is an academic with a reputation for mingling with humans. Broken. Expendable.”

“Hey, now! Hisoka did handpick him,” Sinder defended.

Argent wasn’t impressed. “Dragonkind tossed humanity a scrap that would not be missed.”

“Their loss,” Sinder said firmly. “And not the point. We have a cabal simmering in there, and while they’re trying to be polite, the air’s thick with sway.”

Tsk.” Argent’s fingers drummed against his thigh. “Very well. Jacques will do it.”

  2. Ok, not for the first time, I don’t really understand what’s going on, but Jacques better get in there with a BIG STICK! LAPIS IS NOT EXPENDABLE!

Hem. Sorry for the shouting, but I feel very strongly about this 😳

  3. Jaques will sort them out quickly and make their entitled heads spin, I hope.
If I read this right and I may not, the dragon clans tossed Lapis into the spokesperson job, they didn’t want to do themselves, and now, after all the work he did, they want his valuable position for someone “better”.
    They need to think again.

  4. I have never cared for what little we know about dragon societal structure. I hate to see Lapis in this position. They need a clean wind (or maybe a hurricane) to blow out those old norms. I am glad we are finding out more about how his clan works though. Jacques will do right by him.

  5. I really hope that, at some point in the future, you will bundle these shorts and publish them in ebook and normal book format. Maybe bundle them as a serial? 1 book per time laps? And tell us between/during wich Amaranthine books they should be read. I like time lines 🙂 sorry can’t help myself. But I’m really happy with these really, short 1 bite sized, stories you’re feeding us in between books. Thank you for that.

    • Oh, yes. The plan has always been to publish the finished serial in print/digital format. I even have Travis Baldree reserved to create the audio edition.

When the time comes, LMM will be the first installment in the Amaranthine Interludes collection.

  7. After the ordeal that Argent went thru before Tsumiko, I suppose he’s not too keen when allies/friends are left behind.
Also, how cool will this meeting be, when the dragons try to sway Jacques and only get sass back.
