There were more words, but Sesshoumaru stopped listening. Everything he needed to know was already clear. Kagome had chosen. Her certainty was there in her scent—sure and steady and settled. On him.
“Erm… did you hear me?”
“No.”
“You weren’t listening?”
“No.” He pressed his ear to her heart. “Say it again.”
She began anew, and he relaxed into the cadences of her voice.
“Do you get it?” she checked.
“I understand enough.”
“And you’re okay?”
“Hnn. Say it again.”
“Which part?”
From the doorway, Inuyasha’s grumble was almost fond. “The part where I make sure you get back.”
