Jacques reached for one of the hands tangled in his hair, covering it with his own. “Do you understand the honor of what he’s offering?”
“No.” Inti’s tail looped around Jacques’ arm, holding it in place. “Make him tell.”
“Ingenuity. Subtlety. Fortitude,” Argent repeated. “These are qualities I admire; they are qualities we share. If you can find it in your heart to trust a fox, we would be well-matched.”
“New terms. No terms. Hear terms,” chanted Inti. But then his voice shifted as it had before, colliding into something canny and cunning. “Or do you think I’m a fool?”
