LMM 307: Reasons

Claimer: I do hereby claim all rights and responsibility for the characters in this series of vignettes because the Amaranthine Saga is mine. (Which means I should probably behave myself since anything I say or do could be taken as canon.) Indulge the lot of us, especially the one who might be a teensy bit biased.

Reasons

Jacques outlined Argent’s entirely personal reasons for championing the rights and safety of crossers, including those living under his roof. And the necessarily proportional—though often underrated—importance of Lord Mettlebright’s butler, valet, and confidante. “Moi.”

Inti boffed Jacques’ chin with the end of his tail. “Not a reaver.”

“Completely blasé.”

“Why does he keep you?” Inti asked.

“I like to think it’s an overflow of affection, though he’ll deny it.”

“Foxes lie.”

“Mmm… non. He doesn’t like to boast, which is ridiculous. Argent is extraordinary.” Jacques nodded to himself. “But he’ll look after you for entirely ordinary reasons.”

“Reasons?”

  2. Ah! Ok! I how very tricky with the wording. I think your clan might be one of the trickster clans. 😉

I have to say, I love re-listening or re-reading your books. I catch new details on every re-do!

I am literally giddy with anticipation for Fumiko, especially since Akira is back for (at least) one chapter. **squee**

  3. This is wonderful! Reasons! So many throughout the books. You are so clever in your words. You really make us think. While Jacques may not be a reaver, he certainly has the trust of so many Amaranthine while at their most vulnerable.

  4. No way! Kimiko is my favorite (so far) of the Miko books, and I reread it regularly, I will never look at the word Reasons the same way again while doing it. Thank you for this little gem! Made my evening after a migraine day that didnt let me read.
