“Argent does not miss much,” remarked Deece.
“Did he know about Minx?” challenged Jacques.
“Maybe…?”
“I mostly steer clear of Himself,” admitted Nonny.
“He’ll have noticed that. Safe to assume he knows.” Jacques dragged a finger over the downy hairs he’d discovered along the kid’s jawline. “Maybe Argent’s true reason for giving you to me was so I could teach you to shave?”
Nonny’s laugh was a soft bleat.
Jacques checked, “You really don’t know how old you are?”
Nonny looked up at him, wilted and weary. “They didn’t give me clothes. You really think they threw me birthday parties?”
