“What are you …?” muttered the baffled administrator, whose gaze snapped to a point outside the window.

Jacques turned in time to see Sentinel Skybellow step lightly onto the sill. Crouching until they were eye-to-eye, the dog clansman radiated dominance.

“Aren’t you accommodating?” Jacques pivoted to present his palms while shamelessly matching Sentinel’s dominant stance. With a slow smile, he murmured, “And how comely! Sonnet has your eyes.”

“Aren’t you Smythe?” Sentinel’s gaze flicked to the others in the room. “What has happened?”

“A small misunderstanding, barely a trifle, easily cleared up.” Jacques practically purred, “If you’d be so good?”
