Charmed, I’m Sure

“How many barriers are there?”

“The last three were more for sentiment than security.” Argent’s tone gentled noticeably. “From Michael’s student days.”

“Was he apprenticed to Hisoka?”

“Officially.” Argent lowered his voice. “Michael was mine, first. Unofficially.”

“Did Hisoka notice?”

Argent hesitated. “Perhaps. Yes.”

Green carpet gave way to gray stone in a room dominated by a fireplace. An Amaranthine awaited, elbow artistically propped against an ornate mantlepiece. “Argent,” he greeted. “And this must be the inimitable Jacques? Charmed.”

His tailored suit had Paris written all over it. As did his accent. Orange eyes showed over lavender-tinted glasses.

“Canarian Evernhold.”
