As usual, Ever took charge. “Dis way!”
The boys sprang ahead, racing each other.
“Manners!” Jacques sang out. “I’m only human.”
It was sad, really, having to teach children differences they didn’t see. But the inequity was there. Little crossers needed to learn their own strength so they could temper it.
Kyrie turned back, calling to Ever. “Wait for Uncle Jackie.”
Swaying words.
Harmless ones.
Hoped for ones.
Argent and Harmonious weren’t only putting their sons together because they were both crossers. Anna Starmark understood more than most what was at stake.
Kyrie was Ever’s inoculation against a dragon’s sway.
