“He’s not angry with us,” Kagome whispered.
“No,” agreed Kohaku. “Why would he be?”
“Presumption?”
“No. Sesshoumaru-sama understands compassion.”
Angling her flashlight so it wouldn’t blind Kohaku, she joked, “Are we stuck here all night?”
“I would not mind.” He reached up to trail his fingers through silver curtains. “This is warm and soft and safe.”
“I think he’d let us.”
After several long strokes to the underside of Sesshoumaru’s jaw, Kohaku revealed, “The others will leave tomorrow, escorting the villagers home. We will follow once ShiShi’s stronger.”
Kagome didn’t mind the division of ranks. Strange how natural it seemed.

I love Kohaku’s new role in this story. He has become an integral member of the pack. Very much like Miroku with none of the lecherous inclinations.
