Left Holding the Baby

Jacques timed his arrival in the kitchen to coincide with the return of the beach party. They came squelching in, trailing damp towels and shedding sand. Mustering up a reasonable attempt at solicitude, he murmured, “Welcome back, my lord.”

Argent passed him Kyrie.

Not the honor he’d been hoping for. Jacques valiantly inquired, “Shall I help you dress?”

“Thank you, Smythe.”

He was so surprised, he slipped out of character. “Was that … yes?”

With a twitch of his lips that may have been a smile, Argent took Tsumiko’s arm. “The closet near our suite. I will meet you there.”
