Choose with Care

Jacques perked up. Lapis wasn’t the propositioning sort; he was too careful about the sway of his words. “For me?”

“I am seeking a place to sleep.”

Right. Amaranthine sleep patterns. “You need to… hibernate?”

Lapis smiled. “Deep rest leave us vulnerable, so few like retiring alone.” He intentionally phrased every sentence in ways that left Jacques a choice. “Argent has allowed me to request your attendance.”

“I can’t stay awake that long.”

“Neither can Hisoka remain closeted for the duration. You and he could share the burden I will become.” Lapis studied his gem-studded manicure. “I have prepared enticements.”
