Claimer: I do hereby claim all rights and responsibility for the characters in this series of vignettes because the Amaranthine Saga is mine. (Which means I should probably behave myself since anything I say or do could be taken as canon.) Indulge the lot of us, especially the one who still has nightmares.

Face Your Monsters

Jacques had been inside, yet suddenly, he was ankle-deep in waves. “This is a lie?”
“This is real enough,” said Argent. “Though you may think it a nightmare.”
He tugged at soggy pantlegs. “Because you’ve ruined my favorite shoes.”
“Because this is the truth.”
Jacques turned and immediately shied away from the sight of a basking dragon. “Show me a lie instead. You lie beautifully.”
“Most would consider Lapis beautiful. Especially up close.”
“I don’t want to get closer.”
“I know.” Argent offered his hand. “Neither do I.”
