PRICE CHANGES

My costs have gone up (print costs, shipping costs from the printer, shipping costs to readers, and taxes), so I’ve had to nudge up the price of my author-signed copies from $25 (USD) to $27 (includes shipping in the US). Also, I’m planning to add to/adjust some of your payment options. Hoping to have everything in place by May 1 (a few days away). More about those changes on Sunday.

Proof Copy

Flattered by Flowers: The Anthology. I received an initial proof of the new anthology over the weekend. It looks lovely! As a reminder, this book includes Songs of the Amaranthine 5-8:

  • Hemmed in SilverFairies in the garden. Frost on the pumpkins. Farmhands at the dance.
  • Captured on FilmOne brother believes in impossible things. One brother denies he can see them.
  • Bathed in MoonlightSome courtships follow all the rules. Some courtships bend them.
  • Flattered by FlowersHe’s a rough-hewn romantic, and she becomes his muse.

The flyleaf is ornamented by bamboo this time, and there will be numbered sticker-style bookplates available to readers who want to buy their book elsewhere & add a personal touch. I’ll be opening up for pre-orders of signed copies (and signed bookplates) on May 1.

To be clear, the anthology is only available in print (as seen above) and in audio, narrated by Travis Baldree. You can pre-order the print editions now from your usual book-shopping venues. We’ve tried to set up pre-orders on Audible, too, but the book isn’t showing up just yet. Let me know if you see it populate!

Still to Come. Look forward to peeks at the stamp images that will decorate author-signed copies. And I think we’ll have audio clips from Travis’s narration, too!

Thank you for Pre-Ordering!

Release Day

Flattered by Flowers. Today’s the day! The 8th Songs of the Amaranthine tale has released. Here’s hoping you enjoy the new addition. And since such tales are short & sweet, I’ll make this post do double duty as the Squee Post for Flattered by Flowers.

He’s a rough-hewn romantic, and she becomes his muse.
Junpei is a day laborer who’s supporting his mother and younger brother. He’s mostly resigned to rough hands and scant respectability, but for a few precious hours each evening, he loses himself in the colors and beauty of creation. His painted lanterns and parasols always sell, but supplies are costly, and unlike his illustrious father, he has no patron. While Junpei struggles to get by, strange things are afoot in Keishi—foreigners and their foreign ways. But he’s most interested in the lovely daughter of a local sweets merchant, whose kimono patterns inspire his paintings.

Squee Post. If you need a place to react, confer, or kick up a fuss, this is the spot. I’ll enjoy your enthusiasm, I might be willing to clarify small points, but I reserve the right to evade questions that will be answered later in the Saga & Songs. ::twinkle::

Release Eve

Flattered by Flowers. By my reckoning, pre-orders have already started to deploy, depending on your location. Here in the US, I think we have about 4 hours before I begin checking my Kindle. Sooo… I’ll be putting together & scheduling a release day post soon. Thank you, and I hope you enjoy your read!

FINAL HOURS
Still time to pre-order!

Junpei

Flattered by Flowers (Songs of the Amaranthine, #8) will release on Monday (4/4), and that means you’ll soon be meeting Junpei. If you’ve pre-ordered your ebook, you may even get to read his story a day early! For now, here’s a tiny introduction. Screencaps from the digital book & of the typeset page for the print edition (which releases 5/22).

One Week to Go

Flattered by Flowers (Songs of the Amaranthine #8). The short story will release next Monday, and for those who pre-order, that often means it’ll show up on your e-reader the evening before. (As an avid reader & frequent pre-orderer, I’ve come to adore Release Eve deliveries!)

Yesterday, I put the finishing touches on ALL the uploads, including the anthology, which is off to the printer. This time around, I created back ads for my Patreon exclusive stories:

As you probably know by now, the print anthology collects Songs 5-8. Hemmed in Silver, Captured on Film, Bathed in Moonlight, and Flattered by Flowers. It’ll release 5/22 alongside the audio edition, narrated by Travis Baldree, who’s also been narrating Bard & Barbarian. (Nice segue.)

So much to be excited for! Thank you for supporting my stories wherever they’re found. ::twinkle::

Typesetting Peek

Flattered by Flowers: The Anthology. My next print edition has hit the final stage of production. I’m in the process of typesetting the second Songs of the Amaranthine anthology, which will release on May 22, 2022. Here’s the excerpt I chose to lead into the titular tale:

This goes to show just how important Lord Mettlebright’s Man has become for laying in little details about the ongoing Saga & Songs. I do hope you’re reading along. Also, I’ll remind you that you can pre-order Flattered by Flowers (the single digital short story) over on Amazon. Once I finish typesetting, it’ll begin showing up in other shopfronts worldwide, as will the print edition.

ART: Pitterhind

Ephemera. I recently commissioned four pieces of art from someone who does amazing things with flora & fauna. So I paired Ephemera with significant flowers from the Amaranthine Saga, and the results have been charming! First up, a pitterhind.

Pitterhind | art by Ren

The whistling flutter of wings drew Hazel’s attention to the shrub, where two pitterhinds swung low for a landing. Even in the pre-dawn dim, she could see enough to tell the male and female apart as they scampered on clever paws toward their nest.
Pea green fur.
Tufted tails.
Tiny antlers.
Adorable.
She’d always wanted to catch and tame one. If only Pennythwaite didn’t keep insisting he was allergic.

Hemmed in Silver (Songs of the Amaranthine, #5)

He spent twenty minutes on his belly in the moss, waiting for an antlered mouse thingie to decide he wasn’t a threat.
The instant the shutter snapped, it was gone in a flurry of wings.
Cute little weirdo.
He almost felt bad for scaring it off.

Captured on Film (Songs of the Amaranthine, #6)

A tiny paw reached between the fingers, accompanied by a soft peep.
Rinloo’s tail wagged. “Joonta was right. The Ephemera around here are mostly tame. Will he run if I turn him loose?”
“No,” said Cedar. “I am here and so is Char.”
Mother Moss bustled in, a milk can in each arm. “Ephemera may run from predators, but they fly to imps and reavers alike.”
Slowly, Rinloo parted his fingers. The pitterhind sat back on its haunches and spread its wings. Then in a streak of green fur, it launched itself at Char, who cuddled it to his chest and stroked its head, right between its tiny antlers.

Bathed in Moonlight (Songs of the Amarathine, #7)

. . .

And the flowers? They’re of the same variety as Zuzu’s (from Fumiko and the Finicky Nestmate), which are also the dominant variety of Amaranthine tree on the island that the Farroost clan calls home.

Day 3

Narration Continues. Travis Baldree will continue his narration of Flattered by Flowers: The Anthology this morning. There’s a bit left of Captured on Film. He’s doing amazing things with the Dare brothers. Then, he’ll dive into Bathed in Moonlight. Anyone else looking forward to wolves, moon maids, and Opulence Windlore? ::twinkle::

I hope you can join the fun! I explained the HOW TO on this post, from when Travis narrated Galleries of Stone.

Day 2

Narration Continues. Travis Baldree will continue his narration of Flattered by Flowers: The Anthology this morning. He’ll be wrapping up Hemmed in Silver. (The song is still oncoming!) And then he’ll dive right into Captured on Film with the Dare brothers. ::twinkle::

I hope you can join the fun! I explained the HOW TO on this post, from when Travis narrated Galleries of Stone.

Today’s the Day!

Narration Begins. Travis Baldree will begin narrating Flattered by Flowers: The Anthology today. This is the second of the Songs of the Amaranthine anthologies, which includes Songs 05 – 08. This morning, he’ll begin with Hemmed in Silver. I hope you can drop by and listen in. It’s always fun to watch him work.

Start Time is usually between 8am – 9am (Pacific). It’ll be fun to have voices for Pennythwaite, Thrussel, Alfie, and the rest. ::twinkle::
