#Inktober2018 Update

I posted here that I was thinking about using this year’s Inktober prompts for some playful drabbling. With a character in mind, a setting all ready, and a prompt list for inspiration, it wasn’t hard to make things happen. So I’ll be posting a chapter a day in October. (That means we start Monday!) Here’s a refresher on the prompts:

I’m calling the results my first Amaranthine Saga fanfic (even though I’m the author). Everything is very spiffy and official-like. I have a title, a summary, and even a book cover. In classic forthright tradition, the story will have 100-word chapters … and will probably take a few years to tell.

Want to drabble/drawble along?

ART: Gingko

“No need to stand … or stand on formalities.” He strode forward and crouched beside her, offering a hand. “I’m Gingko.”

Tsumiko’s eyes widened, for her gardener had claws.

He sighed. “Nobody told you about me?”

“No.”

“Figures.”

Gingko pushed back his hat. He was younger than she expected—about her own age, perhaps a little older. While he had the famed beauty of the inhuman races, his pupils were round. Which only confused Tsumiko further, because it made Gingko seem more human.

I don’t like spoilers, nor do I like to spoil surprises. That’s probably why I’ve been sitting on Gingko art for so long. His return to Stately House may be forecast early on, but Tsumiko certainly didn’t see him coming. With Book 2 releasing in less than a month, I’m bringing out FoxOfTwilight’s rendition of the estate’s gardener. Continue reading

Songs of the Amaranthine

Oh, let’s have a little teaser, shall we? We’ll do an official cover reveal for the first story in this collection on Monday, October 1. (If all goes according to plan, Amazon customers will also be able to pre-order.) The scheduled release date is December 4, 2018.

Songs of the Amaranthine is a collection of short stories set in FORTHRIGHT’s Amaranthine universe. Before the Emergence, the clans were nothing more than whispers and mysteries and legends and lore. But every so often—in out-of-the-way places or shockingly close to home—an unsuspecting person stumbled into a fateful encounter with someone who is decidedly other.

An eclectic collection, spanning continents and centuries. Tales of adventure, discovery, friendship, rescue, belonging, and love. Each short story stands alone and can be read in any order.

Fandom Anniversary

I posted my first IY fanfic in 2006, twelve years ago today. I’ve often marked the milestone by posting new stories or updating ongoing ones on this day. This time, I’ll begin posting Mood Stripes to fanfiction.net. (A new chapter will show up here soon, too. Hang tight.)

Random Fandom Factuals:

  • My first chaptered fic (that would be Unsought) was Mir/Kag. For nostalgia’s sake, they remain my “official” InuYasha OTP.
  • Once in a while I’ll write a canon pairing, but I’m mostly an alt. shipper. I like possibilities. I ship around.
  • For me, shipping doesn’t always mean a romantic relationship. My stories also embrace friendship, mentorship, and kinship.
  • Hisoka-sensei exists because I wrote a oneshot called The Bargain. By the time that story was finished, I’d already begun plotting Unspoiled, which became a Big Deal. Wanting to give the good Sensei his proper due, I dreamed up the Amaranthine Saga. Now, he rules two universes. ::twinkle::
  • My first brush with fanart joy came courtesy of Jupe, who doodled every chapter of Impeccable. Since then, I’ve seen hundreds of sketches and illustrations for my stories. Artists are awesomely amazing. ::glomp::
  • Impeccable was my first story with 100-word chapters. It started quite the trend.
  • InuYasha is my first fandom, but I have written for others (Spirited Away, Ouran High School Host Club, YuYu Hakusho, Darker than BLACK) and am in the process of contributing stories to new (to me) fandoms. Because I still like goofing off. For me, writing is both work and play.
  • Even though my earliest stories make me cringe a little, I won’t take them down. They’re a testament to my clumsy, clunky beginnings. Looking back, I catch glimmers of the writer I’m still becoming.

Since we’re being all nostalgic, think back. Which of my stories did you first discover?

Attention to Detail

Permission to Peek. We’re busily adding flourishes to Kimiko’s story, those little details that make the print editions so, so pretty. Tsumiko and the Enslaved Fox is strewn with flower petals, but Kimiko and the Accidental Proposal is a different story. Take a look at a few of the designs for scene break dividers.

Details, Kimiko

Print editions will start showing up in online bookstores in the next couple weeks, and I’ll begin taking pre-orders for author-signed copies on Monday, October 1. At the moment, you can only pre-order the digital edition on Amazon. But it’ll be available everywhere soon.

Thank you for your patience and for your impatience. Each is a compliment in its own way. ::twinkle::

Things are about to get busy…

The dizzying array of upcoming events, reveals, releases, and debuts finally drove me to create a calendar for September/October so I don’t forget anything. I have happy jitters. There’s so much to look forward to:

  • Kimiko and the Accidental Proposal is available for pre-order on Amazon. It should start showing up everywhere else in the next couple of weeks.
  • I’ll begin taking pre-orders for author-signed copies of Book 2 on October 1. Tsumiko and the Enslaved Fox is in stock. More about signed books >>
  • Plans are well underway for my first official Amaranthine Saga fanfic, which will follow the official prompt list for #Inktober2018. (Any guesses on which character I’ve chosen to develop?) Join me in drabbling/drawbling for the whole month!
  • I will be unveiling a thing which I’m hoping will please you. Yep, it’s a thing. Or a collection of things. Readable things with accompanying swag. More about that in a week-and-a-half or so.
  • On October 1, I’ll announce the winners of the Review Challenge from early summer. (Sparkling nibs & a signed copy shall be claimed!) New challenges will be forthcoming as Kimiko‘s release date draws near. That’s October 22, 2018, by the way.
  • If all goes according to plan (hey, that happens once in a while), I’ll celebrate the release of Kimiko and the Accidental Proposal with new chapters of Affinity, an IYxYYH fanfic that’s due to wrap up.
  • Oh! And a week after Kimiko‘s release, I’ll do a cover reveal for Book 3. Won’t that be nice? (It will, it will. I promise.)
